# Off-peak discount break-even calculator

> Will an off-peak discount pay for itself? Enter your price, discount and current off-peak bookings to see how many extra court-hours you need to break even.

Discounting quiet hours is the most common way clubs try to lift occupancy. But a discount also applies to the players who would have booked anyway, so it only pays off if it brings in enough new bookings to cover that give-away.

## Formula

`Break-even hours = current off-peak hours × full price ÷ discounted price`

## How to use it

### Start with what you sell today

Enter the off-peak court-hours you currently sell per week at full price. Every one of those hours will now earn the discounted price.

### Find the break-even volume

The calculator shows how many hours you must sell at the new price to earn the same as today, and the percentage uplift in bookings that requires.

### Test with a realistic forecast

Enter the hours you expect after the discount to see the net weekly change. Then measure it: compare occupancy in the discounted slots before and after with real booking data.

## Example

You sell 40 off-peak court-hours a week at 20. A 25% discount drops the price to 15, so you need 53.3 hours — a 33% increase — just to stand still. If you expect 60 hours, revenue rises from 800 to 900 a week.

## FAQ

**How big should an off-peak discount be?**

Big enough to change behaviour, small enough that the break-even uplift is realistic. The calculator shows how quickly the required uplift grows as the discount deepens.

**What about players who move from peak to off-peak?**

If a discount moves players out of a peak slot that would otherwise stay full, you lose peak revenue too. That's only a problem if the peak slot doesn't get resold — check peak occupancy before and after.

**How do I know if the discount worked?**

Compare occupancy and revenue for the same hours over comparable weeks before and after the change. CourtPulse shows occupancy by hour and weekday from your Playtomic data so you can see the effect directly.

**Does CourtPulse change prices in Playtomic?**

No. CourtPulse is read-only; you set prices in Playtomic Manager and use CourtPulse to measure the result.
