A general BI tool can do anything — once someone builds it

General-purpose BI tools are excellent at visualising data that already sits in a clean table. The hard part for a Playtomic venue is everything before that: pulling data from the API on a schedule, storing it, handling time zones, and defining metrics like occupancy so they mean the same thing every month.

If you have a data person and want full control, a BI stack is a reasonable choice. If you want the answers without owning the pipeline, a purpose-built product is usually faster.

Generic BI tools (Looker Studio, Power BI, Tableau) is enough when…

  • You already run a data warehouse and want Playtomic data next to accounting, payroll or marketing data.
  • You have someone in-house who enjoys building and maintaining dashboards.
  • You need visualisations no packaged product offers.

CourtPulse fits when…

  • You want venue analytics this week, not after a data project.
  • Nobody on the team wants to own an API connector.
  • You'd rather spend the budget on courts than on consultants.

Verdict

BI tools win on flexibility; CourtPulse wins on time-to-answer and maintenance. Many groups use both: CourtPulse for daily venue analytics, CSV exports into their BI stack for cross-business reporting.
